5/2/2007Berkeley developer unloads seven properties through Transwestern
by Transwestern's Multi Housing Capital Advisors group in Los Angeles brokered the sale of a seven property apartment portfolio in Berkeley, Calif. on behalf of Panoramic Interests to Equity Residential.
The portfolio consists of 418 apartment units in the middle of downtown Berkeley near the University of California-Berkeley.
The seven properties comprise of 255,764 sq. feet of rentable area, 40,048 sq. feet of commercial space and 255 parking spaces.
Panoramic Interests is owned by Patrick Kennedy, a major developer in the Berkeley area.
Equity Residential is run by billionaire Chicago developer Sam Zell, who recently purchased the Tribune Co.
The property portfolio includes:Acton Courtyard, 1370 University Ave.: Built in 2003, this five-story mixed-use building has 71 residential units comprising 47,134 sq. feet. Tenants include the Bread Workshop, Books Out Loud, SignCo, Golden Key Piano School, and Verizon.
The Artech Building, 2002 Addison St.:This five-story mixed-use building was built in 2002 and contains 21 residential units comprising 14,259 sq. feet. Tenants include Kolo Kitchen, Costa Rican Adventures, and the educational nonprofit Computer Technologies.
The Bachenheimer Building, 2119 University Ave.:Built in 2004, this five-story mixed-use building has 44 residential units comprising 28,180 sq. feet. Copy Edge is the major tenant.
The Berkeleyan, 1910 Oxford St.: A five-story mixed-use building built in 1998, that contains 56 residential units comprising 35,781 sq. feet. Tenants include Yali's Cafe, Panoramic Management and CM Land Maintenance.
The Fine Arts Building, 2100 Haste St.: Built in 2004, this five-story mixed-use building has 100 residential units comprising 58,448 sq. feet. Tenants include Herbivore and Avila Design.
The Gaia Building - 2116 Allston Way: This seven-story mixed-use building built in 2000 has 91 residential units comprising 53,776 sq. feet. Tenants include Anna's Jazz Lounge, Gaia Arts/ Theatre/Playhouse, and Glass Onion Catering & Events Center.
The Touriel Building, 2004 University Ave.: Built in 2004, this five-story mixed-use building contains 35 residential units comprising 18,186 sq. feet. Darling Flower is major occupant.
